Covid-19: S’wak sees record high of 353 cases, Sibu registers highest caseload

KUCHING, Feb 24: Sarawak reported a new record high of 353 new cases of Covid-19.

The state last reported a high of 270 cases on Feb 4.


Sibu topped the number of new cases reported with 181 out of the 353 cases.

According to a press statement today from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Sibu reported 181 cases followed by Meradong (67), Kuching (31), Bintulu (22), Kapit (18), Miri (8) Subis (8), Betong (6), Bau (3), Dalat (3), Samarahan (2), Julau (1), Kanowit (1), Serian (1) and Saratok (1)

Breaking down the 181 cases in Sibu, 86 cases were identified from active contact tracing to Covid-19 positive cases, 70 cases from individuals who went for screening at the health facilities in Sibu, 12 cases involved medical personnel, 11 cases identified from people with symptoms, one case involved the Pasai Cluster and one case from the Geronggang Cluster.

As for Meradong, 65 out of the 67 cases reported were from the Sungai Bakong Cluster which involved a boarding school in Meradong town.

The balance of two cases was identified from the screening of active contact to Covid-19 patients.

As for Kuching, most of the cases were derived from the Emperoh Jambu Cluster.

The additional 353 cases have pushed the tally of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 8,650 cases.

Nonetheless, there were no casualties reported.

There were 139 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the hospitals.

In spite of that, a total of 2,306 patients are still being treated for coronavirus at the various health facilities and low-risk quarantine centres throughout Sarawak.

There were 375 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) and 23 PUI cases are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test. -DayakDaily
