KUCHING, June 27: The Magistrate’s Court has sentenced three Indonesian nationals to a fine of RM580,000 or 18 months in jail each for the offense of operating 58 gambling machines.
Djap Ni Fong, Andreansyah, and Sulis each pleaded guilty to the charges read together before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
They were jointly charged under Section 4B(a) of the Open House Gambling Act 1953.
According to the case, upon conviction, the accused can be fined between RM10,000 and RM100,000 for each gambling machine seized, and face imprisonment of up to five years.
They committed the offense at a premises located at Batu 7 1/2, Jalan Penrissen, around 6.30pm on June 18.
The brief facts of the case revealed that a police team conducted surveillance during Ops Dadu and raided the premises suspected of engaging in gambling activities.
During a thorough inspection, the police discovered and seized 58 gambling machines, including slot machines.
The seized items were sent to gambling experts for analysis.
Additionally, the three accused were arrested and taken to Kota Sentosa Police Station for further action.
The case was prosecuted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused were not represented by lawyers. — DayakDaily
