KUCHING, Sept 18: China will not forget the assistance provided by Sarawak and Malaysia during the Covid-19 pandemic, says the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching His Excellency Xing Weiping.

Xing stated this tonight at the Kuching-China Trade Importers and Exporters Association (KCTIEA) 48th Anniversary Dinner Celebration, which was held at a restaurant here.

“In the face of the pandemic, China and Malaysia have supported and worked together to overcome the difficulties.

“At the beginning of the outbreak, the Malaysian and Sarawak governments, the Chinese community, and various sectors of the community were actively sourcing material to support China, which the Chinese people will not forget.

“Following the outbreak in Malaysia, the Chinese side did its best to provide materials and technical support to Malaysians, including sending a team of medical experts to share China’s experience in fighting the pandemic and signing the “Agreement on Cooperation in Vaccine Development and Accessibility” to provide timely and effective scientific support in vaccine research and development, as well as support for the Malaysian vaccination programme,” he explained.

He revealed that as of today, China has provided more than 40 million doses of vaccines to Malaysia, demonstrating the two countries’ deep friendship as good neighbours, friends, partners, and brothers.

Furthermore, Xing added that the Covid-19 outbreak over the past two years has changed people’s lives and posed unprecedented challenges to every country’s economy, social governance, and international relations.

“Human society should hold the vision of “people first, life first” — putting people’s lives first, upholding the spirit of science, demonstrating more goodwill and wisdom in solidarity and cooperation, supporting one another and standing together in these difficult times,” he asserted.

The KCTIEA dinner, themed “Together We Create Brilliance”, was held to commemorate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the 48th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.
