KUCHING, May 19: In view of Sarawak’s numerous emerging renewable energy projects, foreign companies such as Linyang Group of China foresee opportunities in the development of battery storage systems to help balance the grid.

Its Deputy General Manager Li HuaiShan acknowledged the growing need for such systems following his observation of the increasing number of renewable energy projects emerging in Sarawak.

“So we can build up in the future, for example, a battery storage system to balance the grid, to make the grid more sustainable and to improve the grid performance. I think this is a key component. There are very good opportunities for the industry to explore the future opportunities,” said Li at a press conference following the formalisation of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sarawak’s SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd, Photovoltaic Foundry Pte Ltd of Singapore, and Jiangsu Linyang Energy Co Ltd of China held on the sidelines of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.

On the tripartite collaboration, General Manager of Linyang Group Yuan Hairong highlighted the growing strategic importance of cross-border partnerships in new technology development and application.

“As industries continue to transition towards digitalisation, intelligent systems and sustainable energy development, strategic international collaboration will become increasingly important.

“This partnership creates opportunities for technology integration, knowledge exchange and long-term industrial cooperation between China and Southeast Asia in large-scale renewable energy project development and intelligent asset management.”

Yuan added that the collaboration aligns with broader regional trends towards renewable energy and grid-level battery energy storage system adoption, digitally smart infrastructure expansion and industrial innovation across ASEAN markets.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Photovoltaic Foundry Pte Ltd Liong Hang Cek said the collaboration demonstrates strong alignment among the partners to advance renewable energy innovation and semiconductor-enabled infrastructure solutions for the future economy.

“We are proud to work alongside the Sarawak government and our industrial strategic partners to develop a large-scale solar farm project that deploys and demonstrates local Sarawak proprietary contents. Sarawak’s long-term commitment and consistent green energy policies create confidence for cross-regional partnership.”

He added that combining complementary expertise across semiconductors, renewable energy and global industrial best practice would help accelerate Sarawak’s green energy export hub long-term mission and promote local success solutions into neighbouring markets. —DayakDaily
