KUCHING, May 15: Chemsain HRD Sdn Bhd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sunway University to educate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs in adopting sustainable practices.

According to a media release today, through the MoU, both parties will jointly develop a training programme called the ā€˜Sustainability Accelerator Programmeā€™ that equips participating SMEs and individuals with the knowledge and skills to develop sustainability strategies.

The training programme will provide an understanding of sustainability, identify risks and opportunities within an organisational context and how Bank Negaraā€™s Climate Change Principle-Based Taxonomy (CCPT) impacts organisations.

Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian commended the effort, stating that it is in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 launched by the Sarawak government to make Sarawak a developed region with a high-income economy by 2030.

ā€œThis is an exciting collaboration between Chemsain and Sunway to promote and develop sustainability not just in Sarawak but throughout Malaysia.

ā€œIt is a good mix of academics and industry experience,ā€ he said when witnessing the MoU signing ceremony held at the Chemsain building here on May 13.

During the MoU signing, Chemsain HRD was represented by its director Brian Chong and training manager, Cassandra Henry Ahguk while Sunway University was represented by its pro vice-chancellor Prof Mahendhiran S Nair and the dean of Sunway University Business School, Prof Lim Weng Marc.

At the same time, Chong said with close to 40 years of experience in the environmental and social sector, he believed that Chemsain could provide unique insights into the development and actionability of the training programme.

Chemsain HRD and Sunway University, he said, will leverage each otherā€™s strengths to develop a practical and actionable training programme to accelerate the adoption of sustainability within businesses.
