Cahya Mata unveils professional women’s track cycling team, launches Cahya Mata Cup 2026

KUCHING, May 22: Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata) has launched a professional women’s track cycling team named Team Cahya Mata to compete on the international stage while helping national athletes prepare in their pursuit of qualification for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

According to Cahya Mata group managing director Sulaiman Abdul Rahman, the group comprises three national athletes— Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri as team captain, alongside Aliana Azizan, Anis Rosidi, and Amber Yong.

“I am impressed by the dedication and discipline shown by our female athletes, who train tirelessly to reach the highest level in their respective sports.

“They are still young yet have already achieved many remarkable accomplishments. We believe that when given the opportunity, we (Cahya Mata) can help them continue to shine,” he said during the Cahya Mata in Sports press conference held today, as reported by TVS.

The event also saw the launch of the Cahya Mata Cup 2026 as part of its efforts to strengthen its commitment to the development of football.

Elaborating on it, he said that the tournament drew inspiration from the success of its previous edition, which saw the participation of 49 teams around Kuching.

With the community’s strong response alongside the enthusiasm shown by players and their families, it inspired the company to expand the tournament nationwide.

“This tournament not only provides a platform for local talent to shine but also promotes healthy competition and true sportsmanship.

“At the same time, it brings us closer to the community, families, youth and sports enthusiasts through a shared passion for sport. Through the Cahya Mata Cup 2026, we hope to inspire more Malaysians,” he said.

The tournament will run from July to Nov 2026, with a total prize money of more than RM700,000, which will see the national champion taking home RM100,000, while each state champion will receive RM20,000. — DayakDaily
