KUCHING, April 12: Cahya Mata Cement Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata), is gearing up to solidify its position as Borneo’s largest clinker producer with the development of its second clinker line at the Mambong plant, Sarawak.
Speaking to reporters during Cahya Mata’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house today, the Group General Counsel, Izzam Ibrahim, provided an update on the highly anticipated Clinker Line 2 project, which was first announced in January this year.
“We are working very closely with the Sarawak government to get our approvals to start construction.
“In fact, we’ve lined up all the necessary manpower and procurement processes in order to kickstart the project,” he said.
Once regulatory approvals are secured, construction will begin on the two-year project—initially set for completion by March 2027—which will more than double clinker production capacity from the current 900,000 metric tonnes annually to 1.92 million.
Cement production will also increase to 2.4 million tonnes per year, ensuring long-term self-sufficiency for Sarawak.
“Once the Mambong plant is completed, we will be the biggest (clinker producer) in Borneo,” Izzam said confidently.

Currently, the largest clinker producer in Borneo is Cahya Mata Cement itself, with its existing Mambong plant producing 900,000 metric tonnes annually.
However, this is set to change with the development of a massive integrated plant by Borneo Cement Sabah Sdn Bhd (BCS) in Tongod, Sabah.
The BCS facility—a joint venture between Setia Alam, Sedco, and Sinoma Bhd—is designed to produce 1.75 million tonnes of cement annually and 5,000 tonnes of clinker per day, positioning it to become the largest once completed, likely by 2026. — DayakDaily
