KUCHING, April 5: The Federal police in Bukit Aman has confirmed that the human remains found at a rural property in Killongbutta, near Bathurst of New South Wales, Australia on Sunday (April 3) are that of a Sarawakian man, Jacky Chong Kai Wong, who was suspected to have been murdered more than a year ago.

In a TVS news report, Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said investigations found that the victim was a 25-year-old man from Sarawak, who had entered Australia in November 2016 on a tourist visa.

He said it was suspected that the victim had been offered a job as farm worker by a foreign syndicate believed to be involved in drugs.

“Investigations are still ongoing by the Australian authorities and any development in the investigation will be conveyed to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action,” he said in a statement yesterday (April 5).

The Federal police also urged all parties to not speculate regarding the case which could create confusion among the community.

Meanwhile, according to the New South Wales (NSW) Police Force in a statement issued on its website, detectives attached to the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad had established ‘Strike Force Heighway’ in June 2021 to investigate a criminal syndicate involved in the manufacture and supply of prohibited drugs.

Their inquiries uncovered the disappearance and suspected murder of a then aged 24-year-old Malaysian national, ‘Jacky’ Chong Kai Wong.

Subsequently, three men – aged 33, 22 and 28 – have since been arrested and charged over their alleged involvement in the murder and remain before the courts.

“As part of ongoing investigations, strike force detectives and other specialist resources have been undertaking a coordinated forensic search of the Killongbutta property since March 29, 2022.

“Human remains were located within the search area about 3.30pm on April 3. The remains will be subject to forensic examination and further analysis, including DNA testing. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner,” the NSW Police Force said. — DayakDaily
