KANOWIT, Aug 30: The RM170 million Jalan Menalun-Sungai Poi project is targeted for full completion by 2030 to strengthen connectivity and improve residents’ access in the area.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the project is being implemented in four phases, with Phases 1 and 2 completed, Phase 3 underway, and Phase 4 still in the design stage.
“Phase 1 has been completed, Phase 2 has been completed, Phase 3’s groundbreaking ceremony is being held today, while Phase 4 is still in the design process,” she said when met by reporters at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Menalun-Sungai Poi Road Construction Project here on Saturday (Aug 29).
National Unity Minister and Kanowit Member of Parliament Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang officiated the ceremony.
Rubiah, also Kota Samarahan MP, said Phase 3 cost RM46.11 million, with a contract value of RM39.96 million, to construct a 3.6-kilometre road.
“For Phase 3, the road is 3.6 kilometres long and does not involve any bridges, but it passes through hilly terrain and does not extend as far as the school,” she said.
Meanwhile, Phase 4 has received an allocation of RM58.4 million to construct a 2.6-kilometre road and two bridges.
She said the phase would also provide a route connecting to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Poi and two longhouses, namely Rumah Panjang Gani and Rumah Panjang Tarang.
“Phase 4 is 2.6 kilometres long, includes two bridges and follows the JKR R1 road standard. It will connect directly to the school and the two longhouses, namely Rumah Panjang Gani and Tarang,” she said.
Rubiah said Phase 1 involved the construction of a 10-kilometre road and three bridges for RM50 million, while Phase 2 involved the construction of a one-kilometre road and one bridge for RM15.8 million.
She said completing the entire project by 2030 would depend on implementation capacity for the remaining phases. — DayakDaily
