KUCHING, Aug 30: Serian’s Air Pollutant Index (API) reading climbed to 350 as of 6am today, placing the area in the hazardous category.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) under the Department of Environment (DOE), three areas in Sarawak recorded very unhealthy API readings: Samarahan at 288, Kuching at 275, and Sri Aman at 215.
Most areas statewide recorded unhealthy air quality, with Sarikei at 195, followed by Sibu (186), Bintulu (175), Mukah (169), Samalaju (168), Kapit (159), Miri (153), and ILP Miri (135).
Meanwhile, Limbang was the only area in Sarawak to record a moderate API reading, at 84.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous. — DayakDaily
