KUCHING, Aug 30: Air quality in several areas across Sarawak deteriorated to hazardous and very unhealthy levels as of 10am today, with Serian recording the State’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 385.
According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), Samarahan recorded the second highest reading at 316, placing both areas in the hazardous category.
Five areas recorded very unhealthy API readings, namely Kuching (297), Tebedu (297), Sri Aman (215), Lundu (236) and Lubok Antu (236).
Meanwhile, 10 areas recorded unhealthy air quality, with Sarikei registering 196, followed by Sibu (189), Bintulu (182), Mukah (173), Samalaju (173), Kapit (160), Miri (157), ILP Miri (153), Bario (119) and Lawas (106).
Limbang recorded a moderate API reading of 92.
