KUCHING, Apr 21: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has warned against the risk of “projects without results”, urging stronger coordination and accountability in addressing basic issues such as water supply, flooding and infrastructure affecting communities.
According to a Facebook post, he said feedback gathered from the ground shows that fundamental problems continue to persist, despite ongoing development efforts.
“Addressing these challenges requires alignment across short-term actions, medium-term strategies and long-term planning, rather than isolated or piecemeal solutions. Otherwise, we will continue to see projects without results,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture and Dudong assemblyman, said the effectiveness of development initiatives should ultimately be measured by tangible outcomes on the ground, noting that public expectations remain high for improvements in essential services.
“Water supply is not a luxury. It is a basic necessity,” he said, citing recent complaints during Hari Raya Aidilfitri where disruptions affected daily activities.
Beyond water supply concerns, he said recurring flooding and infrastructure shortcomings point to deeper structural issues that require more comprehensive intervention beyond routine measures.
He added that leadership must be grounded in responsibility and delivery, cautioning that public trust could be eroded if longstanding concerns are not effectively addressed.
He further emphasised that continuous engagement with the people is crucial in understanding real conditions on the ground and ensuring policies translate into meaningful improvements.
“Power is never permanent. Trust must be protected,” he said. — DayakDaily
