KUCHING, Aug 22: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has urged Bintulu Hospital Board of Visitors members to take a more active role in addressing issues affecting patients, particularly senior citizens, rather than merely holding positions.
In a Facebook post today, Tiong said board members should work closely with hospital authorities to identify problems and find practical solutions, particularly those involving the welfare and services provided to senior citizens.
“Do not merely hold positions or show authority. If there are problems at the hospital, sit down together, discuss them and help find solutions. Whatever we can help with, we should do our best to ensure senior citizens receive the services they deserve,” he said.
Speaking at the ‘Aging With Grace 2026’ programme at Dewan Suarah Bintulu today, he also stressed that improving patient care requires commitment from those on the frontline.
Tiong, who is also Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, called on doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers to provide patients, particularly senior citizens, with the best possible care while exercising patience and ensuring they are treated properly.
“Patients come to the hospital because they need help. We should provide them with good care and service,” he said.
He said ensuring the well-being of senior citizens requires a collective effort, alongside continued government support for their welfare and healthcare needs.
He also urged that senior citizens be given greater space to voice their views, suggestions, needs and problems so that the relevant issues could be identified and addressed more effectively.
Tiong reminded the public that senior citizens should not be overlooked, as the progress enjoyed by society today was built in part on their contributions and sacrifices in the past. — DayakDaily
