KUCHING, Aug 29: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has proposed the construction of a new office building for the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in the district to better facilitate its services.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Tiong said the limited space at the current JPJ office has caused members of the public to line up as early as 5am in order to do their businesses with the department.

“We are planning to construct a new building for JPJ and this matter will be submitted to the Minister of Transport Malaysia,” he said during a media conference held at a local hotel in Bintulu on Friday (Aug 27).

Tiong said the new building plan would be at least a three-storey building, where the ground floor will be utilised for JPJ’s service counters, while the second floor will be used for administration purposes only.

“We do not want the public lined up as early as 5am in order to conduct their businesses with JPJ,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Tiong also suggested to JPJ Bintulu to allow the public to renew their road tax at the post office.

He said to ensure the smooth running of the operation as well as prioritise public safety, the matter can be reviewed together with the Bintulu District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC).

He opined this matter can be brought for discussion with the JPJ, Bintulu DDMC and Bintulu Resident Office for further action. – DayakDaily
