KUCHING, Oct 25: Bintulu Division contributes nearly 40 per cent of the State’s income, says Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Sarawak Deputy Minister Aidel Lariwoo.

Aidel stated that with the planned acquisition of Bintulu Port, it will undoubtedly advance the region and boost Sarawak’s revenue, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) reported.

According to Aidel, the port will be further developed as a State port and transformed into a port hub in the Asia Pacific region.

“Imagine if Bintulu Port is fully taken over by the Sarawak government; there are many more economic opportunities we can generate in the Bintulu area and Jepak in general.

“The State government led by the Sarawak Premier will definitely boost the development of the area in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) which is in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030,” he said after officiating at the closing of a sewing course at Laila Taib Welfare Complex (Peryatim), Kampung Warisan Jepak held today in Bintulu, as quoted by Ukas.

The Deputy Minister also noted that Bintulu is involved with oil and gas production, contributing to the revenue of the Sarawak government.

Meanwhile, the sewing course was attended by approximately 20 participants.

Aidel expressed hope that the sewing course could open up more opportunities for local residents.

“It is our hope alongside the Community Development Department (Kemas) to empower the community to create more opportunities and empower them to increase their income, potentially tripling it through supplementary activities for housewives,” he noted.
