SIBU, Dec 12: Voters in the N53 Bawang Assan constituency have been reminded not to be influenced and deceived by the sweet promises of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan chief Romeo Christopher Tegong said, Bawang Assan incumbent Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh who is also PSB president had lately issued many statements to win the people’s votes, but the latter is only giving empty promises.

Romeo expressed surprise that Wong, 79, still wanted to contest in PRN12.

“If I’m like Soon Koh, it’s better I just stop and give way to younger people and spend time with the grandchildren and kids at home.

“Look like he still wants to be in power in his old age. I don’t understand why he still wants to be in politics again,” he said.

“Enough, Soon Koh, you have been the people’s representative in Bawang Assan and a Cabinet Minister for 25 years. But Bawang Assan is still backward,” said Romeo who is also a political secretary to the Chief Minister.

He cited Bungan Besar, Bungan Kecil and Rassau as areas which did not have treated water supply until now, reflecting Wong failing to manage the wellbeing of his own constituency.

“Residents there have been asking for treated water supply since 2014 when he was the Finance Minister. The cost is as much as RM4 million and he could not do it. If I were the Finance Minister, I would be happy to approve the RM4 million project,” he said.

Romeo said this during a 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12) campaign visit to Rh Dennis Ansam, Bawang Assan here last night.

Also present were Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Bawang Assan candidate Robert Lau Hui Yew, a political secretary to the Chief Minister Daniel Bujal, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar and Tr Dennis Ansam.

So far, the GPS election machinery has visited a total of 17 longhouses in the Bawang Assan constituency for the PRN12 campaign which was also joined by Lau as well as various GPS component parties’ election machinery.

Rh Dennis Ansam was the last stop of the campaign which ran from morning to night.

Bawang Assan has 103 longhouses with a total of 1,916 doors.

Romeo, meanwhile, urged the people of Bawang Assan to vote for Lau as their new representative.

“Remember, this December 18 we have to vote for Robert Lau so that we can show Soon Koh that his services are no longer needed, thus ‘resting ’ him so that he has more time for his family,” Romeo stressed. — DayakDaily
