BBQ cafe owner, employees and customers slapped with fines totalling RM68,500 for SOP violations

The cafe was found to be packed with customers after the permitted operating hours.

SIBU, April 8: A BBQ cafe owner, eight employees and 31 customers were fined a total of RM68,500 for violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) last night.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said action was taken against them as the cafe at Jalan Adam was still open after the permitted hours under the CMCO.

The owner of the cafe was fined RM10,000 while his eight employees consisting of four men and four women were fined RM1,500 each.


The 31 customers consisting of 16 men and 15 women found at the cafe, who were aged between 16 to 55, were also fined RM1,500 each.

“At about 10.45pm an integrated SOP monitoring team led by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division head, DSP Ariffin Baha carried out an inspection at the cafe,” he said.

The team found that the cafe was still open, with the 31 customers drinking beer at the time of the inspection.

All of them were subsequently fined for the offence under Regulation 11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 1988. — DayakDaily
