KUCHING, Jan 27: There is now standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the delivery of pork to Miri from suppliers in Kuching, Serian, and Samarahan.

Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the issuance of SOPs by the Veterinary Services Department (JPV) is aimed at curbing the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

“I have received a letter signed by 37 pig farm owners and pig sellers in Miri voicing their concerns regarding the cessation of pig supply from Kuching due to the ASF outbreak.

“We also want to ensure that the supply of pigs to Miri is sufficient, especially during the coming Chinese New Year festive season.

“This is because 62 per cent of the pig supply to Miri comes from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian, while the rest is from local suppliers in Miri,” he said, according to news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today.

Lee said this after meeting with JPV Miri Division and related agencies at the Miri Resident’s Office on Wednesday (Jan 26).

Also present were Miri Division Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusup and JPV Miri Division head Dr Sylmie Al-Harir. — DayakDaily
