MUKAH, April 1: Construction of the 1.43km Batang Igan Bridge is about 0.74 per cent ahead of schedule with completion expected in the year 2024.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Ir Aidel Lariwoo said contractors have managed to obtain all the main components, including construction materials needed for the project.

“Currently, construction of the bridge project is 24.77 per cent completed, about 0.74 per cent ahead of schedule.

“As such, we expect no problem for them to complete the construction according to the set schedule,” he said in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday.

Aidel, who was accompanied by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak and Mukah engineers and officers had visited the site of the project implemented under the Coastal Road Network and Second Trunk Road Programme on Tuesday (March 29).

“The Batang Igan Bridge is part of the Coastal Road Network in the Central Zone.

“All projects under the Central Zone will complement the Coastal Road Network in Sarawak which covers the Lundu-Sematan to Miri route,” he added.

Meanwhile, JKR Sarawak Corporate Communication in a social media post informed that the Batang Igan Bridge project costing RM285 million to connect Sarawak’s coastal areas also includes a 4.1km two-lane road of R5 standards.

“The project when completed will have a high impact on the socio-economic development of rural areas. It will also shorten the travel time of people, especially residents of Daro and Matu Districts,” it added. ā€” DayakDaily
