KUCHING, April 1: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is exempting licence fees for hotels, lodging houses and stalls in premises under its management for year 2022.

SMC chairman Clarence Ting said the privilege is extended to markets, wet markets, Sunday markets, SMC-operated food courts, Bandong and Pelangi food courts, Ramadan bazaar and other bazaars.

Licence fees of hotels, inns, lodging houses and hostels in Sibu, he said, would also be exempted for the year of 2022.

On bus terminal rentals, he said, a 50 per cent discount would be given for years 2020 and 2021.

“SMC has only given 50 per cent discount from March to September 2020. Council will be writing to all affected bus operators to notify them of their rental situation and all discount will be credited to their account as payment rental in 2022,” he said in a statement today.

Ting also disclosed that there would be a 25 per cent discount on first-half assessment rates for residential, commercial and industrial of over RM400 per annum.

Those who require a copy of the discounted bill may obtain it through e-billing, he added, as all first-half bills have been sent to stakeholders.

For properties with rates under RM400 per annum, he said the owners would continue to enjoy 30 to 100 per cent discounts, depending on property categories. — Dayakdaily
