KUCHING, March 9: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has pledged to continue serving the people regardless of his affiliation amid the country’s political uncertainty, despite funding for his parliamentary constituency being frozen.

“I’ve made an application to purchase more non-touch infra-red thermometer under my constituency funding to give more to hospitals and the health clinics in my constituency. However, my allocation was frozen last week.

“In view of the urgent need for these thermometers, our office came up with our personal funds to purchase these thermometers so that there be no delays,” he said in a statement after paying a courtesy visit to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) recently to handover 14 units of such thermometer.

The non-touch infra-red thermometer is needed by hospital staff to detect and prevent the spread of any infectious disease including Covid-19.

During his last visit to SGH, the DAP lawmaker revealed that hospital staff needed such thermometers especially in the clinics and wards because many of the thermometers that they currently were the common mercury thermometer, which may not be the best option especially during the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“With these non-touch thermometers in the clinics and wards, it will hopefully reduce the risk of any spread. It is also more hygienic in general for both patients and staff.

“I was informed that they will also utilised those extra thermometers to monitor and keep an eye on their staff as they are the ones that risk their lives daily to be on the frontline to make sure patients are well taken care of,” Dr Yii said.

He also thanked the hospital staff for their hard work, commitment and dedication in taking care of the public amid the spread of Covid-19. — DayakDaily
