KUCHING, March 23: Water reservoir levels at Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) are currently at safe operating levels and no controlled water release is being exercised at the reservoir, Sarawak Energy Bhd (Sarawak Energy) says.

On a Facebook post via its virtual customer service assistant, Carina Sarawak Energy, it said the Bakun reservoir helps to manage and regulate water levels upstream and downstream of the facility.

“During this rainy period, the Bakun catchment helps to store excess rain water upstream, helping to reduce downstream flood as a result,” it said.

Sarawak Energy further urged the public to be cautious of false information circulating online regarding rising water levels allegedly caused by controlled water releases at the Bakun HEP, affecting communities downstream of the Rajang River.

For accurate information, it said, refer only to Sarawak Energy’s official website and social media pages. Alternatively, contact its 24/7 Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111 or via the SEB cares app for any assistance. – DayakDaily
