BELAGA, April 29: The 275kV Bakun–Murum Transmission Line Project (Circuits 3 and 4), spanning 21.2 kilometres, has recorded 8.64 per cent physical progress as of March 2026, with full completion targeted for November 2027.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the project is a key initiative to strengthen Sarawak’s electricity supply system by enhancing grid resilience and ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply across the State.
A symbolic milestone for the project was marked through the traditional Pela Daleh ceremony held at the Murum Junction Substation today, reflecting respect for the customs and cultural heritage of the Orang Ulu community.
Organised by the Belaga District Office in collaboration with Sarawak Energy, the ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang and attended by Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon.
Also present were SEB Power chief executive officer Ir Bunyak Lunyong, Belaga District Officer Bidah Lujah, representatives from government agencies, and local community leaders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bunyak said the project is a strategic step in strengthening the stability of Sarawak’s power grid system, ensuring a more consistent electricity supply for both domestic and industrial users.
He added that beyond its technical role, the Pela Daleh ceremony reflects Sarawak Energy’s commitment to respecting local customs while strengthening ties with the communities it serves.
“This approach is aligned with our social investment efforts, which emphasise cultural preservation alongside community development,” he said.
As part of ongoing engagement efforts, the Pela Daleh ceremony will also be conducted at several longhouses, including Uma Badeng, Uma Nyaving, Uma Apan, Uma Sambop Long Semutut, Uma Sambop Batu Pilau, and Rumah Kejaman Lasah, to ensure inclusive participation from affected communities.
Once completed, the transmission line will play an important role in improving system stability, reducing the risk of large-scale supply disruptions, and enabling efficient transmission of up to 2,520 megawatts (MW) generated from the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (HEP).
Sarawak Energy reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with local communities and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation and to deliver long-term benefits for the wellbeing of the people. — DayakDaily
