Attempt to smuggle 200 gas barrels near Serikin into Indonesia thwarted by Armed Forces

Two individuals are arrested along with the goods to be smuggled.

KUCHING, Oct 26: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 200 gas barrels into Indonesia yesterday (Oct 25).

According to a news report from TVS, the First Division of the Malaysian Infantry headquarters reported that in a 6pm incident, a team of Armed Forces personnel who were carrying out an operation, discovered a lorry and a 4WD vehicle using an illegal route at Empaling Stass Plantation in Serikin.

The area is located approximately 600 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.


“Upon inspection, they found two local men, aged 23 and 36, suspected of attempting to illicitly transport the gas barrels into Indonesia.

“The total estimated value of confiscated goods amounts to RM 141,700, which includes a 2.5-tonne lorry, a 4WD vehicle, 200 gas barrels and a sum of cash,” ATM said through a media statement.

Subsequently, all apprehended individuals, along with the seized goods, were handed over to the local police authorities.

A formal report was filed at the Bau Police Station to initiate further legal proceedings. — DayakDaily
