KUCHING, July 19: A local man’s attempt to smuggle 20 boxes containing 240kg of frozen goods via a river route was foiled by personnel from the 9th Malaysian Infantry Brigade (9th Brigade) during an operation at the border in Limbang on Saturday (July 18).
In a statement posted on Facebook, this followed swift action from the troops from the Ninth Battalion of the Border Regiment (9 RS) who detected suspicious movement from a Proton Saga during a routine patrol.
An inspection of the vehicle uncovered 20 boxes containing frozen goods believed to have been intended for smuggling out of the country via waterway. The army seized all the chilled goods along with the Proton Saga.
Commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Dato Jafri Sulaiman, commended the efficiency and vigilance of the 9 RS troops.
He also stressed that the Malaysian Army (TDM) would continue to strengthen border security without compromise to curb all forms of cross-border crime. — DayakDaily
