ASAJAYA, June 20: The progress achieved in Asajaya over the years reflects the spirit of hijrah, which calls for continuous improvement in all aspects of life, says Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Asajaya assemblyman said hijrah should not be viewed solely as the migration of Prophet Muhammad SAW, but also as a journey of change from weakness to strength, from division to unity, and from hardship to better conditions.
He said the concept of hijrah can be seen in everyday life through efforts to improve oneself, one’s family and the wider community.
“The changes we see today compared to 20 years ago are the result of continuous improvement and progress throughout our lives. What was once a relatively underdeveloped area has now become a thriving district with better connectivity and infrastructure for the people.
“This transformation was made possible through planned development and the collective efforts of leaders entrusted with governing the State and the constituency,” he said when officiating at the Asajaya district-level Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026 celebration at the Kampung Serpan Ulu multipurpose hall here today.
Abdul Karim noted that similar progress can also be seen among families in the Samarahan division, many of whom once depended on farming and fishing as their main source of income.
He said one of the most notable changes is in human capital development, particularly access to higher education.
“Previously, only a small number of students from this area managed to enter universities. Today, hundreds from Asajaya alone pursue higher education every year.
“It has become common for families to have children studying at universities, polytechnics and other higher learning institutions, reflecting a shift in mindset among parents and the community,” he said.
He added that the increasing emphasis on education demonstrates the community’s determination to ensure future generations enjoy better opportunities and quality of life.
The minister said the district’s transformation would continue through ongoing and future infrastructure projects aimed at improving public convenience and living standards.
He also urged parents to nurture and educate their children well so that the momentum of progress can be sustained for generations to come.
“This journey of improvement should never stop. It must continue from one generation to the next so that our community can keep moving forward,” he said. — DayakDaily
