All involved in alleged Bintulu gang fight must be penalised regardless of backgrounds, says Bintulu MP

KUCHING, Oct 12: All those involved in the alleged gang fight in Bintulu recently must not be spared from legal repercussions despite their backgrounds, says Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

He said anyone, even if anyhow related to himself, who were found to have violated the law in that incident must be penalised.

“I want to unequivocally state that anyone who is found to have violated the law, even if there is any relation with me, must be subjected to legal enforcement without exception,” he said.

Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman, said individuals or groups who try to disrupt public order and “turn Bintulu into the wild west” cannot be tolerated.

He opined that they must be prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law no matter their backgrounds or supposed clout or gang affiliation.

“They can drink for fun but not make trouble due to being inebriated. It is sad and disappointing too to know that some practicing lawyers advise these troublemakers on how to exist on the fringes of the law and avoid legal repercussions.

“But whatever the reason that caused the disturbance on Sunday night, gang problems or drunken fisticuffs, their antics put Bintulu on the map for the wrong reasons,” said Tiong in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak Commissioner of Police for his prompt orders to track down, investigate and arrest the suspects.

“We should applaud the Bintulu police for their efficient and quick action,” he added.

On Sunday (Oct 9), the Bintulu police after receiving a report rushed to an entertainment outlet at Jalan Abang Galau to find several vehicles damaged at the scene.

A 12-second video clip also went viral the same day showing a four wheel-drive reversing at high speed and subsequently ramming into another vehicle. — DayakDaily
