Deputy minister pledges ministry’s full support for tourism related local events

KUCHING, Oct 12: The Sarawak government, through the Ministry for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts will continue to support local or international events that promotes Sarawak tourism.

Giving his assurance, deputy minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said while the ministry is actively promoting Sarawak’s tourism industry, they also support the private sector in promoting any related activities.


Speaking at the ‘Cats Around the World’ press conference, Ting lauded the organiser YAST Group for adding a long series of pre-events in conjunction with the 25th Miss Tourism International World Final 2022/2023 and Farley Mall being part of the co-organising team.

“This activity surrounding the event will create a ripple effect and synergise with our sustainable tourism industry, besides being part of a series of events in welcoming the 50 to 60 beauty queens from around the world to Sarawak this November.

“Looking at how our local entrepreneur who is also the organising chairlady of the 25th Miss Tourism International World Final 2022/2023 Esther Law Lee Poh organise, she has strategically make things happen through a series of pre-events, including this one to promote the uniqueness of Sarawak to the world.

“From here, I see the commitment and efforts put in by the leaders and the project team in making Kuching a tourist brand that is centered around cats, thus attracting a niche and targeted crowd from around the world,” Ting said.

He added that with the strong support from all stakeholders, such as Farley Mall which is another locally born brand and enterprise, Ting believes the public can expect a lot of excitement about the upcoming beauty pageant which will last for 18 days from Nov 11 to 28.

Meanwhile, the 25th Miss Tourism International World Final 2022/2023 is one of the major international beauty pageants held annually.

This year, with the theme ‘Bring the World to Sarawak’, beauty queens from 50 to 60 countries will arrive in Kuching for the World Final which will be held at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre on Nov 25.

Apart from attending Cats Around the World, other pre-events which these beauty queens will attend before the finals are a Kuching city tour comprising the Kuching Waterfront, Darul Hana Bridge, Main Bazaar, Old Court House, Borneo Cultures Museum and dinner on scenic Sarawak River Cruise; tree planting at Unity Garden; visiting the Sarawak Cultural Village and Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Center; attending a Woman Empowerment programme; ‘Bringing The World to Lundu’ for International Friendship Parade and visit Gunung Gading as well as gracing the ‘Bau Welcomes the World’ event to launch the floating gallery and visiting Siniawan Old Town. — DayakDaily
