KUCHING, June 10: AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin has apologised to passengers affected by recent flight delays and cancellations across Sarawak and Sabah, while assuring that the airline is moving forward with its fleet renewal programme to improve operational reliability.

In a message to passengers, Megat Ardian said the disruptions were caused by several aircraft being unavailable at the same time due to maintenance requirements and technical rectification works.

“I would like to sincerely apologise for the disruption, inconvenience and uncertainty this has caused. We understand the impact these disruptions have had on our guests and their families, and we deeply regret the frustration and disappointment caused,” he said.

While emphasising that safety remains the airline’s highest priority, he acknowledged the impact the disruptions have had on communities that rely on AirBorneo’s services across Sarawak and Sabah.

According to him, AirBorneo’s teams have been working around the clock to restore normal operations as quickly as possible by mobilising additional resources, expediting the arrival of required aircraft parts and minimising further disruptions wherever possible.

Megat Ardian said the airline is also taking steps to strengthen the reliability of its operations through an ongoing fleet renewal programme.

“As announced earlier this year, we will progressively introduce new ATR 72-600 series aircraft into our fleet as part of our ongoing fleet renewal efforts,” he said.

He added that while the improvements would take time to be fully realised, they represent an important investment in delivering the safe, reliable and dependable service passengers expect and deserve.

AirBorneo has also reached out to affected passengers to assist with rebooking arrangements, refunds and other travel support. Where necessary, meals, accommodation and ground transportation have been provided, he said.
