SIBU, June 23: The dedication shown by frontliners and volunteers at the various vaccination centres (PPV) including mobile units has enabled the town to administer up to 6,600 doses of Covid-19 vaccines today.

A delighted Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee coordinator, Dr Annuar Rapaee told reporters after witnessing the trial run at the PPV at Universiti College of Technology (UCTS) that the frontliners and volunteers deserved praise.

“We achieved 6,600 doses today and this is due to the hard work of everybody involved,” he said.

Touching on the UCTS PPV, he said the target was to administer 1,000 doses per day.

“Today is the trial run and already 500 have received the vaccine. The full scale of the operation will take place next Monday and we are aiming to administer up to 1,000 doses per day. The recipients are workers from big and small industries that cover every sector of the economy,” he said.

He added that over 14,000 people had registered to receive the vaccine at this PPV.

“The PPV will be in operation until all 14,000 have been vaccinated,” he stressed.

This PPV was set up due to the collaboration between UCTS, SEGi University and Pansar Holdings Berhad where each of them deployed their staff to help set up the centre.

“Pansar is taking the lead to organise it in a big way,” he said.

Pansar Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Jason Tai said the setting up this PPV was aimed at rapidly increasing the rate of vaccination in the area.

“We are fortunate to have volunteers from these three organisations as we are not using the existing government resources including those from private clinics. The vaccination part is done by nursing staff from SEGi University Sibu campus while other volunteers are from Pansar and UCTS,” he said.

The 14,000 voluntary vaccine recipients, he said, are from 20 companies in the town. — DayakDaily
