23 men in Kuching charged over alleged involvement in organised criminal group

KUCHING, June 22: Twenty-three men were charged in court today with their alleged involvement in an organised criminal group known as ‘Geng 24 Hung-Hung’.

According to the charge, all 23 accused allegedly participated in organised criminal activities between December 2021 and April 20, 2026, at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Temaga Cina-Dayak, Sematan.

The charge was framed under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of not less than five years and not more than 20 years upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Shafig Hasim of the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) Putrajaya, Maryam Jamielah Ab Manaff, and Mohammad Mustaffa P. Kunyalam appeared for the prosecution.

The accused were represented by counsels Dato Shankar Ram, Ranbir Singh, Ralph Lee, Patrick Voon, Daniel Ling, and Tiong Ing Neng.

The High Court fixed July 23, 2026, for further mention and ordered that all 23 cases be jointly tried.

No bail was offered as the charges fall under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA), and all 23 accused were ordered to be remanded in prison pending the next mention date.

According to the prosecution, the accused were arrested during the police’s Ops Pusak Merah conducted between April 19 and 23. — DayakDaily
