PADAWAN, July 29: A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed after he allegedly lost control while overtaking a vehicle, causing his motorcycle to veer into the path of an oncoming pickup truck along Jalan Mambong-Sikog-Sariq near Puncak Borneo prison yesterday (July 28).

According to a report by TVS, Padawan District Police chief Superintendent Barry William said the crash occurred at about 6.15pm when the victim was riding a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle.

He said preliminary investigations found that the victim was travelling in the opposite direction before attempting to overtake a car ahead of him.

“The victim allegedly lost control while overtaking, causing him to enter the opposite lane and collide with a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old man.

“Following the collision, the victim was thrown onto the road while his motorcycle landed on the roadside. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed that he died at the scene due to severe injuries,” he said in a statement today.

Barry said the pickup truck driver escaped unhurt, adding that the victim was also believed to have been riding without a valid driving licence.

Both vehicles have been taken to the Padawan District Police Headquarters for further inspection by the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) and the Chemistry Department.
