BAU, Feb 8: The 200-year-old Golden Hill Temple in Tasik Biru has been given a new lease on life that will add to the many attractions found in Bau.

According to a news report by TVS, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said with added value to the tourism products like this historical temple, it will help boost Sarawak’s tourism industry and also increase the income of the local economy.

“I have visited Bau numerous times in the past two years and seen many changes that have occurred in this area.

“Like the bridge crossing the lake (Tasik Biru) and this temple, if they are not given a new look, no one will know about it and want to climb on it, except the worshippers from the Chinese community,” he said when officiating at the Golden Hill Temple here today.

With that, Abdul Karim emphasised that places with historical value like the Golden Hill Temple make the best tourism products.

“Bau has its own interesting history as well as a good landscape. Therefore, I hope that the community in this area will always create a harmonious atmosphere and provide friendly hospitality, especially to visitors.

“That’s your responsibility so don’t let the opportunity go to waste,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tecktonic & Sons Holdings managing director Lee Chin Teck has taken the initiative to revive the Golden Hill Temple by equipping it with facilities to make it easier for visitors to fully experience what Bau has to offer.
