LAWAS, Aug 18: A 17-year-old boy sustained injuries to both legs after he was believed to have been shot while at a water catchment area in Long Lidung, Jalan Ba’ Kalalan, here, last Saturday (Aug 15).
According to Lawas district police chief DSP Liong Tindan, the incident occurred at about 7pm when the victim was at the water catchment area along a tributary located about one kilometre from his home.
He said the victim went there because his house had no water supply and was clearing vegetation when the incident occurred.
“During the incident, the victim was clearing vegetation around the water catchment area when he suddenly felt pain in both legs.
“Upon examination, four gunshot wounds were found, believed to have been caused by a shotgun,” he said in a statement.
Liong said the victim was only found by his father after he failed to return home by 8pm, having left the house at about 5pm.
“The victim was found lying in pain in the forest near the water catchment area before his father took him to Lawas Hospital.
The victim is in stable condition, and police are investigating the case under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 307 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
