LAWAS, Sept 7: Firefighters netted a 15-foot (about five meter) scaly intruder in a house at Kampung Banting here, yesterday.
Upon arrival at the house at about 8.30pm, they found the python attempting to swallow a cat in one of the bathrooms.
The house owner, who made a call to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), claimed that the reptile had killed their cat before trying to eat their pet cat.
Five firefighters took nearly half an hour to capture and later retained it inside a large sack.
The firefighters later released the python at an isolated area, away from the residential area.
All species of pythons are under the list of protected animals in Sarawak, based on the First Schedule ā Section 2(1) Part II on Protected Animals from Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 (Chapter 26).ā DayakDaily
