SIBU, Aug 10: A 23-year old man was sentenced to a year in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing 20 units of mobile electronic devices.
The accused, Mohd Khairul Nizam, pleaded guilty under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
According to the brief facts of the case, after receiving a report lodged by the owner of a handphone shop at Jalan Bengkel about a break-in, the police sprang into action to track down the culprits.
CCTV recordings from the shop showed the accused together with an accomplice who is still at large, breaking into the shop at about 3.25am on Aug 5 and stealing the devices together with invoice papers.
At about 8.10am on the same day, a police team went to the accused’s house in Kampung Hilir.
When he saw the police team, the accused attempted to flee but was arrested.
Police seized 20 units of handphones and tablets, invoice papers and the suspect’s motorcycle during the arrest. — DayakDaily
