KUCHING, Oct 25: A 21-year-old youth was allegedly extorted for RM100,000 after he attempted to quit a shady job.

According to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, the youth who preferred to be identified as Lim, realised there was a problem with the companyā€™s operations after beginning full-time employment with them.

Chong explained that the companyā€™s business consisted of renting bank accounts from individuals to those who wish to use them as third-party accounts for their own business.

ā€œLim decided to inform his boss of his intention to resign after a few months on the job and after reading a number of articles about scams.

ā€œHowever, the boss, who is also from Kuching, informed Lim that he must pay more than RM100,000 in compensation if he wished to resign,ā€ he told reporters at a press conference held today in front of the Padungan police station here.

Chong said that Lim did not borrow money from the company, but they continued to extort money from him.

Today, Chong assisted Lim in filing a police report after the latter was intimidated this morning by individuals allegedly working for a job scam syndicate that rents out bank accounts and demanded money from Lim for resigning.

Chong, who is also the Padungan assemblyman, warned youths against allowing others to use or manage their bank accounts, pointing out that allowing unauthorised access to oneā€™s bank account is illegal. ā€” DayakDaily
