KUCHING, Oct 25: The high-tech ‘outdoor cinema’ by Karuna Sarawak is expected to be a new tourist attraction in the city.

The outdoor cinema which is showing at Old Court House Courtyard every Sunday evening of this month, is part of the What About Kuching (WAK) festival.

Karuna Sarawak chief executive officer (CEO) Melvin Ong said at they also debuted an Outdoor Cinema mobile app where the audience is able to listen to the audio from their mobile phone and headphones while watching the video from the big screen outdoors, solving the issue of bad audio quality from outdoor speakers.

“This heralds the first high-tech outdoor cinema that has been debuted in Sarawak which will be a new tourist attraction in this city.

“The high-quality audio solution is the same mobile application that is featured in the Skypark Cinema at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and Open Air Cinema at the Sydney Opera House in Australia,” he said in a statement today.

Among the movies shown during the Outdoor Cinema for WAK festival included ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, ‘Encanto’ and ‘Shang-Chi: The Legends of Ten Rings’.

Ong said the creative digital company hopes to see the latest Outdoor Cinema technology transform the way the public experience an outdoor screening with high fidelity audio, be it on the train, the park or anywhere that is convenient to the user.

Karuna also supported the WAK festival as a CSR initiative by sponsoring the ticketing website and system for the entire event.

Karuna pledged to continue supporting and playing its role in the digitisation of WAK so it can be enjoyed by everyone. — DayakDaily
