SERIAN, Feb 17: The progress of two projects in Serian division, namely SK Lebur Remun and Padawan Link Road, is behind schedule.

Work on the SK Lebur Remun project started in 2020 and is scheduled for completion in March this year, but currently progress is only 53 per cent, compared to the targeted benchmark of 89 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Padawan Link Road project is 30 per cent behind schedule.

The delay of both projects was revealed by Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Aidel Lariwoo, who was earlier briefed on the matter by Public Works Department (JKR) Serian personnel today in conjunction with his working visit to Betong, Sri Aman and Bintulu

“Overall the progress of the projects here (in Serian) is progressing well, except for the SK Lebur Remun and Padawan Link Road projects.

“So JKR is closely monitoring the two projects,” Aidel told a press conference today at the JKR Serian office.

According to Aidel, the completion date for SK Lebur Remun has been rescheduled to April this year.

On the 14.225km-long Padawan Link Road, Aidel said among the problems encountered were illegal structures built within the road’s alignment.

He explained that illegal structures were erected within the road alignment whereby land owners had been compensated about a decade ago.

“For Padawan Link Road, there are structures built along the road alignment and the contractor finds it difficult to come in.

“So I have told JKR to tell the contractor to go the places (along the road project) where there is no problem so that the project can be carried out,” he stressed.

“The Padawan Link Road project commenced on Dec 20 2019 and is scheduled for completion in Nov 2022, but at the moment is 30 per cent behind schedule and considered a ‘sick project,” he added.

Also present at the event were JKR Head of Assets Ting Sie Loh and Serian divisional engineer Oliver Ngabong Jimmy. — DayakDaily
