KUCHING, Nov 16: A 25-year-old woman was fined RM1,500 by the Magistrate’s Court today after pleading guilty to lodging a false police report, claiming she was sexually assaulted at a Batu Kawah hotel on Oct 30 after being discovered by her husband at the hotel.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi imposed a fine of RM1,500 or in default three months imprisonment on Ayu Abdullah.
The charge, framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, carries a penalty of imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the charge sheet, Ayu filed the false police report on Oct 30 around 10.37pm at the Kota Sentosa police station.
The brief facts of the case revealed that Ayu had alleged in her police report that she was sexually assaulted by a 51-year-old hotel worker in a hotel room on Oct 30.
Subsequent investigations, however, showed that not only had she fabricated the report, but she also admitted to allowing the hotel worker access into her room.
The motive behind filing the false police report became apparent as it was revealed that Ayu took such action after being discovered by her husband at the hotel.
Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin handled the prosecution, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
