What’s in a grin? Wild monkey wanders too close to Matang housing area

Firefighters caught the wild monkey hiding in a shoe rack.

KUCHING, Apr 21: A wild monkey bared a grin at firefighters as they finally caught him hiding in a shoe rack this morning.

An emergency call was made to Petra Jaya station after a young monkey was seen running around a house in Lorong 1A, Taman Yen Yen, Matang.

“We received the call at 11.01 am from the house owner about a young monkey running loose outside the house compound. Rescuers from our department manage to locate the animal, who was hiding in a shoe rack and captured it within minutes,” Petra Jaya fire station chief Azaharul Sahari said.

When confronted by the firefighters, the wild monkey seemed to give them a guilty grin, although primates are more likely to bare their teeth when they are trapped.
