KUCHING, March 3: Non-Muslim wedding ceremonies are now allowed be held at houses of worship with a limited number of attendees during Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), except for areas placed under Enhanced MCO (EMCO).

This was among guidelines updated by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for the operation of houses of worship during CMCO which has been extended to March 15 throughout Sarawak.

The standard operation procedures (SOPs) are applied to all areas under Covid-19 red, orange, yellow and green zones in Sarawak.

In areas classified as Covid-19 red zones, only 12 attendees are allowed in the wedding ceremony while a maximum of 20 attendees are allowed in areas classified as orange, yellow and green zones.

However, the permitted number of attendees is subject to the capacity of the respective house of worship or venue hosting the wedding ceremony.

The newlyweds and attendees are also required to leave the premises once the ceremony is over.

Other than wedding ceremonies, all other activities including cultural ceremonies, funeral rites, seminars, courses, gatherings and any activity that would involve a large gathering of people and are not for religious purposes are not permitted in any zone during CMCO.

Meanwhile, the CMCO throughout Sarawak has been extended to March 15 in view of the recent high number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the state. — DayakDaily
