KUCHING, April 6: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) ‘Duduk dan Tonton’ event to showcase nominated films about endearing mother-child relationships is scheduled for April 11.

Unimas in a statement today said the event is organised by Mini Film Festival (MFF) committee from Unimas’ Cinematography Programme.

The event will screen three short films at Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub Library (PeTARY) Auditorium starting at 8pm (doors will open at 7:30pm) and conclude with a short film discussion.

“The MFF committee, consisting mostly of second and third year Cinematography students in Unimas, will host the ‘Duduk dan Tonton’ event, together with the collaboration from the Director of MFF Yow Chong Lee, a lecturer under the Cinematography Programme, to spearhead the 19th Mini Film Festival.

“The film screening event will feature a curation of three short films which were nominated and screened during the 18th Mini Film Festival, with one of these films even awarded the Best Short Film award in the 32nd Malaysian Film Festival,” it said.

The screening will include, ‘Youniverse’, a film directed by On Wan Ling, which portrays the story of a young girl aspiring to become an astronaut, and her mother who provides unwavering support for her daughter’s dream.

The remaining two short films that will be screened are ‘Spring Shower’ directed by See Kar Keng, and ‘Can You Love Me Most?’ by Feizal Azizuddin.

The latter short film narrates the story of a baby who is sold to a couple unable to have children, and the entire story is told from the baby’s perspective.
