Voon – Measly offerings for Sarawak in Budget 2019

Voon Lee Shan

KUCHING, Nov 3: The budget allocations for Sabah and Sarawak for 2019 was like “crumbs under the table”; enough for street dogs and cats, said lawyer Voon Lee Shan.

The former Batu Lintang assemblyman said Sarawak contributed RM42 billion or 15 per cent to the national revenue, but by getting back a mere RM5 billion back is extremely disappointing.

It is a known fact that each year, oil and gas sectors from Sarawak contribute much to these revenues to the national coffer.

“Malaya will swallow up RM271 billion of the national revenues for year 2019. There is no justification for Malaya which is not bigger than Sabah and Sarawak combined together to enjoy such a huge fund for its development.

“That part of the country is already very developed. The government has capitalised on the weakness of the peoples of Sabah and Sarawak to fight for their rights by taking matters not in the August House of Parliament into the streets,” Voon said when met today.

He cautioned that the time will come when people of Sabah and Sarawak will show their colours for receiving such unwarranted treatment.

Having said that, he urged the governments of both East Malaysian states to combine forces to demand for a referendum for the people of Sabah and Sarawak to decide whether they still wish to be in Malaysia. — DayakDaily
