KUCHING, April 25: A company owner from Mukah has fallen victim to a fake watch investment scam, losing RM490,000 in the process.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata said the incident unfolded when the victim, in his 60s, received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number while at home on March 21.

“He was introduced to a watch investment scheme by the suspect, identified as Lee Chee Ling. The victim was then provided a link (digis.5g.top) to register himself to initiate the investment.

“The victim was given an explanation on how to buy watches offered in the advertisements and resell them back to the SG886.com company, with a promise of a profit rate between five and 10 per cent,” he stated in a statement today.

Enticed by the offer, the victim conducted four payment transactions totalling approximately RM490,000 to a single bank account in the middle of the month.

However, he soon realised he had been deceived upon failing to receive any profit. Consequently, he lodged a police report for further investigation. — DayakDaily
