KUCHING, April 25: A company owner from Mukah has fallen victim to a fake watch investment scam, losing RM490,000 in the process.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata said the incident unfolded when the victim, in his 60s, received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number while at home on March 21.

“He was introduced to a watch investment scheme by the suspect, identified as Lee Chee Ling. The victim was then provided a link ( to register himself to initiate the investment.

“The victim was given an explanation on how to buy watches offered in the advertisements and resell them back to the company, with a promise of a profit rate between five and 10 per cent,” he stated in a statement today.

Enticed by the offer, the victim conducted four payment transactions totalling approximately RM490,000 to a single bank account in the middle of the month.

However, he soon realised he had been deceived upon failing to receive any profit. Consequently, he lodged a police report for further investigation. — DayakDaily
