MIRI, April 4: The discovery of a Portuguese Man o’ War, a fascinating yet potentially dangerous jellyfish-like creature, sparked intrigue and caution among beachgoers, on yesterday evening at Luak Esplanade.

As news spread of the creature’s presence, locals and visitors alike were reminded of the importance of not touching these mesmerizing yet potentially harmful organisms.

A team of Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel was swiftly despatched to the area after being alerted about the discovery around 6.30pm yesterday.

They immediately posting warnings to ensure the safety of beachgoers.

The Portuguese Man O’ War is a siphonophore, a group of organisms that are closely related to jellyfish.

It is capable of delivering a painful sting even weeks after having washed ashore. — DayakDaily
