KUCHING, Nov 14: An unemployed man, who threatened to burn his father’s house after being denied money, has been sentenced to eight months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court today.

Hafizul Bohari, 23, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the immediate enforcement of the prison sentence for the unrepresented accused.

The charge stated that on Nov 10, around 6.30pm, in Taman Mesra Bako, the accused had criminally threatened to burn the house of his 59-year-old father (the complainant).

The facts revealed that the accused uttered threatening words such as “I will burn your house later” after the complainant refused his request for money.

Concerned for his safety and that of his family, the complainant promptly filed a police report, leading to the accused’s arrest on the same day in front of the house.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the accused had a history of drug abuse.
