KUCHING, Nov 14: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P214 Selangau Edwin Banta intends to lift Selangau from the backwaters by stimulating socioeconomic development in the constituency.
According to a statement, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Edwin has plans to organise socioeconomic activities which will impact livelihoods and generate income for the local population.
“He believes, for example, that Selangau has a future in commercial coffee production besides oil palm.
“Edwin also promised that he would take care of all in the seat if he won, irrespective of their race, religion and political affiliation.
“He deserves everyone’s full support for his vision, his political belief, his commitment to serve,” he said.
Uggah said this during a ‘meet-the-people’ session held at Rh Sigan in Ulu Sungai Arip in Selangau, yesterday (Nov 13).
Uggah, who is also GPS election director, reminded the people of the consequences of electing a non-GPS candidate in the 2018 election.
He said the people in Selangau had been left alone in the past five years in the wilderness, devoid of development projects and plans with little to no engagement with the Sarawak government.
“Now is the most opportune time to change for the better.
“Selangau constituency voters will be the real winners if they cast their voters for GPS candidate Edwin Banta on the Nov 19 polling day,” he added.
Meanwhile, Edwin said the outcome of the 15th General Election (GE15) is important in order to transform Selangau from what it is today.
“We’d been left in the lurch for the past five years. It’s time to make things right,” he said. — DayakDaily
