KUCHING, Feb 19: The Covid-19 infection in the longhouses throughout the state has declined in numbers, said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah.

According to Uggah, Sibu not only contributed to the highest number of new positive Covid-19 daily cases recorded but also the highest number of longhouses that were put under down.

“As we know, Sibu was also identified as the epicentre for Covid-19 in the state earlier and a total of 114 longhouses in Sibu that has been recorded with Covid-19 infection was also put under lockdown

“As of today, only 51 longhouses (in Sibu) still remain under lockdown, and a total of 63 longhouses have been released after not recording new cases following their second and third screening test. This is good news for the longhouses,” said Uggah during the press conference on State Covid-19 development held in Petra Jaya, today.

On the same note, Uggah revealed a total of 248 longhouses that have been put under quarantine throughout the state.

“A total of 116 of the longhouses have been released from their quarantine order, and 98 other longhouses still remain.

“With the declining numbers of Covid-19 infection in the longhouses, we hope that the longhouses folks will continue to remain vigilant,” he added. –DayakDaily.
