KUCHING, May 6: Sarawak is fortunate to have a visionary leader like Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who has brought many new ideas to propel the State’s economy, said Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Wan Junaidi applauded Abang Johari for the many new approaches and ideas he has brought to the State, including digital economy initiatives; data centre development; green and renewable energy; hydrogen, carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS); green economy; and circular economy.
With those new ideas, he said Abang Johari had successfully transformed Sarawak into a high-income State.
“As such, Sarawak has become a global player and is known around the world,” he said in his opening speech during the first meeting of the third term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today.
Wan Junaidi further elaborated that the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030), which is the brainchild of Abang Johari, has a clear development direction towards directing Sarawak to become a developed and high-income region by 2030 based on economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
Wan Junaidi also lauded Abang Johari on Sarawak’s economy, which continues to grow and is the third largest contributor to Malaysia’s economy, after Selangor and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, and surpassing Johor.
“This is the result of the implementation of various initiatives, programmes, and high-impact projects in various economic sectors.
“I am confident that with a clear and inclusive strategic development plan, Sarawak’s economy will continue to progress and emerge as a major contributor to the Malaysian economy.”
At the same time, Wan Junaidi said that he is proud that the World Bank has recognised Sarawak as a high-income region.
“This reflects the economic prosperity achieved as a result of the various development initiatives implemented by the Sarawak government.
“I hope that this economic prosperity can be enjoyed by every class of society. Therefore, the Sarawak government’s efforts to increase household income are very much in line with the objectives of social inclusion,” he said. — DayakDaily
